More than language lessons
At Holland International School, we offer two distinct learning streams based on different national curricula, yet we ensure a mirrored learning experience for all our students. From August 2025, in addition to Dutch, we will offer Mandarin, and French as additional language options in the curriculum of the English Stream. This approach allows students to develop multilingual skills while fostering cultural awareness and global competence.
Students in the English Stream receive 45 minutes of daily second language lessons led by experienced specialist teachers, enhancing their language skills with focused instruction.
All language classes take place in small groups, where special attention is given to ensure that each student develops their skills at a pace and level suited to their individual needs.
-
Dutch: Dutch students are grouped into three learning levels to ensure personalized support: on track with Dutch peers, progressing with minor delays, or requiring extra guidance to achieve language goals, fostering tailored growth and success for every learner.
-
Mandarin: Specialist teachers use level-appropriate curricula to match students' abilities, focusing on oral communication, vocabulary development, reading, and writing. Lessons are designed to engage students in meaningful and culturally relevant ways.
-
French: French lessons emphasise conversational skills, vocabulary, reading, and writing. Teachers tailor lessons to students’ levels, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging language learning experience.
For children in the Reception Class, lessons are tailored based on observations, ensuring meaningful and age-appropriate learning experiences. Themes from the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) are incorporated into language lessons, making them relevant and engaging.
A Cultural Experience: A Piece of Holland on the equator beyond language education, Holland International School provides a rich cultural experience. Dutch traditions and festivals are celebrated alongside international holidays and cultural events reflecting the traditions of Mandarin-speaking and French-speaking cultures. This creates an inclusive and global environment, blending Dutch heritage with a diverse, multicultural perspective.
