Embracing Community at Holland International School
At Holland International School (HIS), we pride ourselves on being more than just an educational institution—we are a close-knit community. Our tight community creates a nurturing environment and school culture where students, parents, and teachers connect and grow together.
Small by design, our school offers personalised learning both in our classrooms and outdoors. With our low student-teacher ratio, every child receives the personalised and focused attention they need.
In this blog post, we share perspectives from a teacher and our parents, highlighting what makes our community so special.
A Teacher’s Perspective: Nurturing Relationships and An Inclusive School Environment
“I’ve been working at Holland International School for nearly seven enriching years. Nestled atop Bukit Tinggi Hill, our boutique school provides a serene and green setting that fosters safety and happiness and allows our students to truly thrive.
From day one, this place felt like home to me. The most rewarding part of my role is engaging with the children. Interacting with their curiosity, energy and creativity is second nature to me. They reflect such joy and I find myself learning and growing alongside them every day.
Living in Singapore, which is a vibrant melting pot of cultures, brings me immense happiness. I take great pride in being part of our passionate and dedicated HIS team, which plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of international education in Singapore.”

Parent Testimonials: A Community That Feels Like Home
“Our daughter has loved being in the Year 1 and 2 English Stream at Holland International School. HIS is a small and gentle school that feels like a family. We are not a Dutch-speaking family but the school remains very accessible to English-speaking parents and children. The IPC curriculum is well-paced, comprehensive and gives children opportunities to learn through doing, experimenting, and delving deep into interesting and fun themes like the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’, ‘Light’, ‘Occupations’ and more.
The basics like reading and arithmetic are well-covered. There's a fun and wide range of co-curricular activities (CCAs) including drama, sports and cooking. The school is in a lovely green area of Singapore out of the city noise and bustle. Even though we're not Dutch, it's been great for our daughter to learn another language, and to experience another national culture, with fun and unique cultural events like Sinterklaas (the arrival of some fun and mischievous characters by boat and at the school shortly before Christmas) and King's Day (birthday celebration of the Dutch king). The style of education is not too high-pressure, and leaves important time for kids to play and learn social skills.”

“Our three kids are really enjoying their time at Holland International School. HIS is a small and cozy school situated in very green scenery. The school is characterised by small classes, typical Dutch traditions, but also with much attention for the English language and other cultures. Our kids received a very warm welcome by the HIS team and the students and felt at home instantly. Besides the stimulating IPC curriculum, there is a large variety of co-curricular activities and cultural events which enhances the student’s development and skills. Our kids enjoyed cooking, dancing, sports, theatre, but also personal development courses.
During the regular curriculum, HIS has the capability to partly tailor the education for kids with special needs or additional interests. Frequent contact between the HIS-team and parents via personal contact, open attitude of the teachers, assemblies and events ensures parents are well informed and creates a warm and engaged community feeling.”
